Overview
Athean uses third-party AI services to power features like account research, message generation, personalization, and AI Operators. We believe customers should know exactly which providers process their data and for what purpose.
AI providers we use
OpenAI — Athean uses OpenAI's API to power generative AI features across the platform, including:
- Account and contact research summaries
- Email and LinkedIn message drafting
- AI Operator workflows
- Auto-personalization and reply suggestions
- Conversation and meeting intelligence
Customer data sent to OpenAI through Athean is never used to train OpenAI's models. Athean operates under an OpenAI enterprise agreement with zero data retention enabled, meaning prompts, completions, and any data passed through the OpenAI API are excluded from model training and are not retained by OpenAI. Data is processed only to return a response to the active request.
What data is sent to OpenAI
When you use AI features in Athean, the following may be sent to OpenAI for processing:
- CRM record fields (account, contact, and opportunity data) relevant to the request
- Email and call activity context relevant to the request
- Prompts and instructions you or your team configure
- Public web content gathered during research
What data is not sent to OpenAI
- Credentials, API keys, or authentication tokens
- Payment information
- Data from customers or workspaces other than your own
- Bulk exports of your CRM outside the scope of an active AI request
Google Workspace data
Athean is verified by Google for OAuth access to Gmail and Google Workspace APIs. Data obtained through Google Workspace APIs is not used to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or ML models — including Athean's own models, OpenAI's models, or those of any other third party.
When Workspace data is passed to OpenAI to power a user-facing AI feature, it is covered by Athean's enterprise zero-retention agreement with OpenAI and is never retained for model training.
Controls
Administrators can disable specific AI features at the workspace level. Contact your Athean account team or support@athean.com for help configuring AI access for your organization.
