Choose your audience
Open Find contacts when you want to find people across accounts. Its filter menu includes Account, Contact, and Signal criteria, so you can describe both the company and the person you want to reach.
If you are already working inside an account, its Contacts tab offers a directory of people associated with that company. Use Find contacts for a wider search across your target market.
To bring in a Sales Navigator lead search or saved list, follow Import contacts. That guide also explains enrichment and CRM import.
Before building the search, decide which roles matter and which contact details your next step needs. A calling workflow and an email workflow may require different records.
Combine company and person filters
- Select Add filter and choose Account filters such as Industry, Location, or Employee count. Use Company when you want to target particular accounts.
- Add Contact filters such as Job title, Department, or Seniority to describe the people you need.
- Use Field availability to focus on records with the information your workflow requires.
- Where appropriate, use Hide opted out and Exclude contacts in active sequence to narrow your outreach candidates.
- Review the results and adjust the criteria. Open a few contacts to check whether their roles and companies match your intent.
Distinguish the account's Location from the contact's Location when setting geographic criteria. Organization-specific CRM and signal filters may add further ways to narrow your search.
If your team uses Salesforce, an administrator can add reusable filters in Org settings → Salesforce filters for accounts, contacts, or both. Find the configured filters in the corresponding Account or Contact section of Add filter to narrow your search using your team's Salesforce criteria.
Prioritize contacts with Heat Index
Athean heat index helps you prioritize prospects using the signals available to your workspace, with High, Medium, and Low ratings. Find contacts offers separate filters for the company and the person:
- Add filter → Account → Athean heat index narrows contacts by their company's rating.
- Add filter → Contact → Athean heat index narrows contacts by their own rating.
For example, combine a High account rating with your target job titles to find relevant people at those companies. Select a contact's heat indicator to review their rating and available engagement summary before planning outreach.
Check the contact before outreach
Open a contact to review their company, job title, available email and phone details, and previous interactions. Check account context as well as the person's record so your next step reflects what your team already knows.
Contact information and enrichment depend on connected sources. Your organization can bring data enrichment vendors such as ZoomInfo to Athean; ZoomInfo is optional. A missing field or empty activity history does not prove that the person has never interacted with your team. See Salesforce live fields to view or update configured fields on the contact's linked CRM record.
Select the contacts you want and choose Add to list to organize them, or Assign sequence when you are ready to choose outreach. Before confirming an enrollment, review the sequence, selected recipients, and the settings shown in the flow. For a specific follow-up or calling batch, create tasks for the selected contacts.
Keep the search useful
Save a successful search as a view when you expect to return to it. Use a descriptive name such as “Operations leaders at target manufacturers.” Reopen the view to apply the same criteria to the records available at that time.
If expected people are missing, check account filters as well as contact filters. A restrictive company criterion can exclude an otherwise matching person.
