How does Chat fit into selling?
Chat lets you run your go-to-market work through conversation. Work with Athean to decide where to focus, understand your buyers, prepare outreach, and learn what is working. It brings those parts of selling together so you can move from deciding what to do to getting it done.
Use it at any point in your day: when you are looking for your next opportunity, preparing for a meeting, following up, or reviewing results. Athean can recommend a starting point and help work out the next step with you.
What can Chat do for me?
Here are a few ways to put it to work:
- Find the right people. Discover accounts and contacts, understand why they fit, and build lists to work. Start with “Who else should I be talking to at these accounts?”
- Get ready for a meeting. Bring together account research, recent conversations, and relevant signals. Ask “What should I know before meeting Acme Corp.?”
- Prepare outreach. Turn what you know about a buyer into personalized messages and sequences. Try “Help me follow up with this contact.”
- Prioritize your day. Review signals, tasks, and account activity to identify where your attention matters. Ask “Where should I focus today?”
- Understand what is working. Explore activity and sequence results, investigate changes, and identify improvements. Start with “How is my outreach performing?”
You can carry the work forward in the same conversation: research an account, find the people to contact, save a list, and prepare outreach using what you just learned.
What if I do not know what to ask?
You can start without a specific question or a fully formed plan. Click the empty Chat or Ask Athean box to see Suggested for you. Choose a suggestion to put it in the message box, adjust it if you like, and select Send. You can also simply ask “What can you help me with today?”
A broad request such as “Help me work on Acme Corp.” is a starting point. Athean helps narrow it down and asks follow-up questions when it needs more direction. You can work out the audience, priorities, and next action together as the conversation develops.
If you already have something specific in mind, share it. Otherwise, start the conversation and let Athean help you find the next step.
How does a conversation turn into work?
A conversation can produce research, saved lists, and outreach you can use in Athean. For example, here is how a broad starting point can develop into an account outreach plan:
- Open Chat or use Ask Athean on Home.
- Start with “Help me work on Acme Corp.”, using an account you sell to. Athean can help explore recent activity, research the account, or identify people to contact.
- Choose a direction from its recommendations and answer any follow-up questions. Review the suggested people and why they are relevant, then refine the audience together.
- Once you have the right people, ask: “Save these contacts to a list called Acme operations outreach.” Check the resulting list and its members.
- Continue with: “Draft a three-step email sequence for the first contact using this research. Leave it for review.” Inspect the generated outreach and ask for any changes before approving it.
The next request builds on the context and results already in the conversation. Use New chat when you want to begin a separate piece of work.
Check the result and decide what happens next
For the walkthrough above, the result should be a researched audience, a saved contact list, and personalized outreach awaiting review. Open the list to confirm its members and review the sequence's contacts, messages, and steps. Follow Sequences to understand approval and how outreach progresses.
When an answer includes citations, open them to check the supporting material. Records and results opened during the conversation appear under Conversation items; select an item to return to its working panel.
When Athean requests approval, review the proposal and select Preview when available. Approve authorizes the action; Reject declines it. Some requested actions, such as saving a list, happen directly. Check the resulting status to understand what was completed and what still needs your input.
For work you want to repeat, turn the proven instructions into an agent. Review its audience, schedule, and proposed instructions before approving creation.
What does Athean know about my business?
Athean can draw on your account and contact records, signals, available conversations and activity, and shared company guidance. That context helps it make research and outreach relevant to the people you sell to.
The sources it can use depend on your workspace's connected tools and your access. Your team can maintain shared product knowledge, messaging, and other guidance in Knowledge corpus.
You can also bring material into a conversation. Use the paperclip's Attach files control to add a PDF, Word document (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), text, Markdown, CSV, or HTML file. You can attach up to five files per message, with a limit of 10 MB per file. Wait for uploads to finish before sending.
You can also paste an image into the composer. Remove an attachment or image from its chip before sending if it is no longer needed. Explain what Athean should do with the material, such as summarize it, compare it with an account's context, or use it to draft a message.
Attaching a document gives the conversation source material. To make approved guidance available through your organization's shared knowledge, follow Knowledge corpus; adding a file to a chat does not automatically add it there.
Can I pick up where I left off?
Return to Chat and select an entry under Recent conversations. Use Show more to expand the visible history and Load more to fetch older entries. Recent conversations are also available under Chat in the sidebar.
The status tells you where to pick up: Responding means work is in progress, New response marks a response to review, and Input required means the conversation needs your attention. History can include work started in other Athean tools, such as an agent run or sequence editor.
Open the conversation to inspect its messages and results, then continue where the workflow allows.
When the result needs attention
- The result is not what you had in mind: tell Athean what feels off and continue the conversation. It can help clarify the direction, narrow the scope, and refine the result with you.
- Information is missing: ask what Athean could verify and which sources it used. Check the relevant connection and permissions, or attach the missing material.
- An action is waiting: look for Input required or an approval request. Review the proposal, provide the requested input, and check the resulting status.
- You want to stop: select Stop while Athean is responding. Check any work already completed before asking for another action.
- A conversation or result is unavailable: contact support with the conversation link, what you requested, and the issue.
